http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4869290.stm Now I carry a knife (a well sharpened hunting one used for making sandwiches while out and about across the country) and I think that this is very obviously just another oportunity for the police to be fining me for carrying my friendly concealed weapon. They should be out sttopping burglars, not just persecuting me for breaking the law. YES, there are people that carry knives badly but why should we all suffer? It's political corectness gone mad. Sometimes you just HAVE to be carrying aknife. I don't see why us sensible knife carriers should be put out because of the few idiots.

It's a shame you can't get a dispensation to carry your knife in the same way that some people are allowed to possess shotguns. Although in a way the scanning is beneficial, it presumably could stop guns as well. Maybe portable scanners could be deployed in plainclothes cars, so as they drive along they're able to identify which pedestrians are carrying concealed weaponry.

I live in a fairly 'deprived' area. They would drive about here much much more. That'd just be them using scanners where they KNOW they'll make money.

Well, I'd wear bullet-proof headgear if I were you.

normally i carry: www.impactguns.com/ store/media/para_warthog.jpg never really think of knives as "weapons" it's more of a tool that most uprite homosapiens have carried since they learnt how to sharpen the edge of a rock... i don't like not having a knife on me not for protection but because they are so damn handy... but i also remember the first time i was in the uk and didn't realize/know about the prohibition and pulled out my knife to cut open the packaging of a pork pie, and the guy with me just about jumped outta his skin... but it is a really cool knife... http://www.thebladeshop.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1234 x

Sorry Tony I like knives and Swords, but when I read stories like this I see the point of some measures being taken in an attempt to stop shit like this happening: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4889244.stm

Tom, my post was a (evidentally poorly executed) drunken attempt at satire on attitudes to speed cameras.

Sorry, I woke up this morning, a bit hungover, and that was the first thing I read, really depressed me! Actually, I want to start a sword collection.
