We on strike next week or what? Must get a union person out to our office, at some point.

My girlfriend is a day service manager and unison member. She says there is to be a strike on wednesday.

I nkow it was voted for. Just wondering if Prezza's 'talks' have managed to avert it.

I haven't heard anything. Perhaps we should just take the day off anyway to be sure. (This is a serious matter though, sorry)

We're on strike. Apparently Prezza was quite sympathetic but the local authorities group wasn't having it. x

My better hals is TU rep - she was prepared to take bets that the govoernment would manage to avoid it (a strike) prior to an election. Normal service will resumed after the General Election.

"The government wants to raise to 65 the age at which workers are entitled to draw an unreduced pension across most of the public sector pension schemes, including the NHS scheme and the local government scheme. In addition, they want to raise from 50 to 55 the minimum age at which workers can apply to draw their pension for reasons other than ill-health. This means that workers between 50 and 55 who are made redundant will no longer be entitled to an immediate pension." Welcome to the real world!!!! (Oops - Maundy Thursday, your all on halfday..............) ;-)

Why should Civil Servants retire before the designated retirement age? Why should the Civil Service be immune to cost cutting? Why did it take 9 Civil Servants to do the job I now do for them? Why do I, on a daily basis, have to witness extreme wastefulness of both time and assetts on behalf of the Civil Service? Can I not make points which others disagree with? The Civil Service is in dire need of reform from top down and bottom up.
