Globalization...
Jul 17, 2001, 23:43
Dyou know, as a teenager in the late 70's I just thought America was that goofy place where crazes began, Starsky and Hutch screeched round, and bearded men in Big Wide Open Spaces trapped musk rats. To my young mind it seemed a ridiculous phantasy that one day the so-called greatest Nation on Earth would be the kind of place that may send in the military to protect the 'rights' of uber-Capitalist Trainer shoe manufacturers, yet do nothing to protect the rights of kids who get payed 72 pence a day for manufacturing US 'flagship' sportswear. Half of those poor kiddies wages is spent on drinkable water, while the Western kids who shall be one day wearing those trainers are stamping their feet because their allowance won't cover their phone bill/coke/Big Mac/Nike bills. Dickensian? You bet, except we think we're cool. Some of us.
