Free Radio - Pacifica
Jul 31, 2004, 19:49
Currently on Radio 4's Archive Hour (well, half hour if you tune in now):

"Since 1949 Pacifica Radio has been a unique voice of dissent, an arena for protest and a space to imagine an alternative American dream. Raided by the FBI, blown up by the Klu Klux Klan and frequently torn apart by internal troubles, Pacifica has both reported and reacted to the major social upheavals of American life and liberty. Mike Marqusee pieces together an epic archival history of radical American radio."

This is worth listening to if only for the blokes statement to the HUAC witchhunt as to why he will not 'cooperate' with them. Made me feel ten foot tall, anyway. The rest of it;s fairly gripping, too.

As with all the beeb, you can listen again

I listened to that aqk, well some of it anyway.

I can imagine some of the wasted rambling conversations in the middle fo the night would be absolutley hilarious to hear - mix that kind of near chongian style chat with some fairly serious broadcast intent and you got a recipe for nick typing pissed crap on hh for a change, gah anyway ... getting back to the subject .. was a good bit of informative radio .. vote radio 4! radio 4 for pope!
