"The Labour party last night picked a fight with the country's biggest rail union when officials warned that the union's decision to let local branches sign up with other parties could lead to its disaffiliation from Labour." http://www.guardian.co.uk/guardianpolitics/story/0,3605,1118209,00.html Or stating the bleedin' obvious? Surely that's the point? "If you disaffiliate from us, it'll lead to you being disaffiliated!"

Fuck Labour. The unions would be better off affiliating to a left wing party.

The RMT decided to affiliate at the branch level. There are a large number of them up here that are now affiliated to the SSP

We need proportional representation, otherwise (in England anyway) socialist parties will always be too weak for the unions to risk it.

Is PR not coming in for local elections? Councils must be some of the biggest employers about. Well, it's a start.

Update: "Bob Crow Says To Blair: 'come and have a go If you think you're hard enough!!!'" http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3465959.stm Postal union says: "You mean we don't have to give money to a warmongering cunt?" http://www.theherald.co.uk/politics/9340.html

Well, it happened. I heard a New Labour spokesman saying "Well what do you expect if you tell your members to affiliate to Trotskyist organisations". Fuck New Labour. If you're one of the good ones, get out, and make part of something better. What a pity there's no English equivalent to the SSP.

It will happen. It's taken us a number of elections to get the SWP to realise that it's not them picking up the voters. All we need is thee SSP to stop selling the paper on ther streets (most small newsagents carry it) and we can convince people this is genuinely the new only really new way onward. With the exception of Tommy S and Rosie Kane, the other 4 SSP MSP's are long long time old labour activists. C'mon it's a start.
