In the preamble, they put it more succinctly than I've ever seen anywhere else: "The foundation of Chomsky's moral universe is the belief that intentions and rhetoric have no meaning outside of actions." Simple as pi. (Read a really intersting overview once of his contribution to linguistics - quite remarkable.)

I got to know about him through his linguistics stuff. I was kinda surprised when I first met students (for so they were) who thought he had dead good politics. there a bunch more good Chomsky speeches available to download from here: http://www.aoxz03.dsl.pipex.com/fulllist.htm too (along with a bunch of other danged lefty materials)
