a tragedy

a flower has fallen from the tree of life
a light snuffed out like a star extinguished from the sky
a voice that will laugh no more
and no more tears to cry

a spirit circling looks down into the world
and filled with love falls to earth as a child
slowly growing like a precious, beautiful flower
a light amongst a river of lights

but the thieves of our future threw splinters in her path
with cold uncaring cruelty stole the love that shone in her eyes
a hard cold frost to wither her garden
a cage in the darkness to smother her light

and those who made the world so hard
who wove the noose that took her life
must surely get what's coming to them
or justice is deaf, dumb and blind

- in loving memory of debra, who died last friday not even 25 years old. may she find the peace in death that she could not find in life.
