Voices in Stone
Mar 10, 2003, 10:21
ive just read about an experiment in interferometry at Corfe castle in Dorset in 1973. The idea being that sound in the form of air pressure waves, can effect changes in quartz and 'proto-ceramic' materials in rocks and so store sounds as patterns of electrostatic charge; so by exciting the stones electronically it was thought that it would be possible to release the energy as audible near random sound. Comparison of wave forms from points around the walls were allegedly said to reveal recognisable fragments of speech and other sounds.

Now this all sounds a bit off the wall, but does anyone know of anything similar (in terms of sonic tests etc) which has been done since?
