a Stones Throw
Feb 21, 2003, 09:02
right - contentious topic for the day. I watched that King of Stonehenge thing the other night and one of the presenters mentioned the longbow the guy was interred with as being purely a symbol of wealth, and even if there had have been a barn around, let alone a door, he couldnt have hit it anyway!

Sooo, it occured to me some while back and has been nagging at the back of my mind for ages to flag it up:

Have you ever thrown a stone or anything else, and hit the target bang on? Ive tried archery, snowballs, skimming stones over rivers, coconut shies etc and have had mixed success hitting anything let alone a barn door.

and yet some people seem to have a natural ability in this area, a natural marksmanship if you will, which can sometimes beggar belief with its accuracy.

and so, it occurs to me, that given the physics and anatomical arrangements involved - ie the shoulder/arm/muscles & eye / brain coordination, that it shouldnt be practical to be able to target objects and hit them with a small missile at some distance with any degree of accuracy. And yet it is, and its demonstrated regularly in a variety of settings.

So - could it be possible that in some instances there could be some kind of psychic guidance involved? Just looking at a target and pulling the arm back shouldnt actually do the trick, but it does!! I think that there must be some kind of connection between the target and the marksman which allows the missile to follow a course with accuracy...

i did say it was contentious...
