Can I camp herw?
Apr 12, 2018, 15:40
Is this site open to the public? I'm looking for a place to go camping and was wondering if we could use the field as a place to put up tents. Also another question: am I allowed to use stoves to cook food when camping?

Thanks

Hi Luis,

There is public access according to the Bucks CC website: https://ubp.buckscc.gov.uk/SingleResult.aspx?uid=%27MBC4494%27

As for camping/cooking, it's a scheduled ancient monument and any damage would be a criminal offence (lighting fires and any digging is definitely out). The legislation on Scheduled Ancient Monuments doesn't prohibit camping, but there's no automatic right to "wild camp" - not that it looks very wild :) - in England so you would need the landowner's permission. https://www.campsites.co.uk/guides/wild-camping/wild-camping-in-england-and-wales

From the fieldnotes it doesn't actually sound like somewhere I'd want to camp mind you, surrounded by houses, frequented by dog walkers and strewn with dogshit. Mmmm.
