On tonight BBC4 9.00pm http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08fsbtk "Peter Owen-Jones takes us into heart of the UK's newest national park - the South Downs. Following the South Downs Way along the spine of the park, from the famous Seven Sisters Cliffs to Winchester - the ancient capital of England - Peter experiences an extraordinary year exploring the park's stunning landscapes, rich history, wildlife and people. What emerges is a portrait of one of Britain's most iconic landscapes, described by William Blake as 'England's mountains green'. " I like Peter Owen-Jones, a true eccentric - am sure this will be worth a look "Starting at the eastern end by Seven Sisters cliffs, he covers a lot of ground, both literally and figuratively, as his walk along the 100 miles of South Downs sees him touch on the area's amazing biodiversity, its ancient history, geology and the people who work on its slopes"

I enjoyed it too, although he kept on reminding me of iggy pop, which in turn gave rise to that unsettling thought "when is my car insurance due?"

Hahaha. I didn't clock that at the time but now you've said it... I did smile at his unconventional pronunciation of HimAAAHliyas.

Glad you enjoyed it. I used to think the hippy look was a bit of an affectation but he really is like that. He kicked off Swindon's Literature Festival on May Day a couple of years back talking about his book Pathlands. I spoke to him afterwards, he was very approachable - came across as unaffected and, dare I say it, quietly spiritual. I believe his work as a vicar is unsalaried and he supports himself by writing, making the odd little tv film ... and lambing.
