Ah, that'll be the Russians....via the antifreeze/vodka capsule. Think I read that whilst fighting the Afghan's in the 80's, they used to smear shoe polish on bread and leave it in the sun to extract the alcohol present. Ah, those pesky Ruskie rascals!

Though, tbh, dunno is that was just Western proaganda trying to put them in a bad light. Another rumour was that the MiG 21 pilots used to radio back bad weather so they could siphon off the antifreeze/alcohol in the de-icing system for a finer tipple.

Anyways, I'll shut up now as I seem to be waaaaay off what the original thread was about.

Just to chip innto original theme, Think after the Romo's left, we 'natives' lost the ability, not only to make concrete (also concrete that would set underwater was only fairly recently re-discovered I believe) and decent-ish window glass.
