These programmes from Scottish TV (1970s and 80s) are really interesting. Some, such as these two, feature standing stones.

Never come across Weir before will watch later on. There is also a 2 part series about Fair Isle on BBC at the moment, the first is on catch up here;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b083xzhb/fair-isle-living-on-the-edge-episode-1

The next will be on Monday, it seems an idyllic way of life but very tough to live in isolation on these islands.

Cheers DiF, I'd forgotten about those programmes and him. All 45 of them, possibly in better quality than on Youtube, are available to watch here: http://player.stv.tv/summary/weirs-way/ You may find that there are other topics and locations in the programmes in addition to those summarised. A documenter of Scottish tradition, reminds me in a way of Jack Hargreaves south of the border..a breed now gone.

Yes, I thought of Jack Hargreaves, too: I loved watching those with my grandparents as a youngster. I watched a dozen Weir's last night due to insomnia, and it was like being in a half dream, so very restful nonetheless!

Thanks, Moss. Unfortunately I can't access iplayer as I'm living in Germany at the moment: the BBC allow radio access, but not telly.

:-)

Beer! Good idea!

PS Anyone - it's driving me mad, as I can't remember the name of another lovely Yorkshire chap who used to present wildlife / rural affairs progammes in the 80s. Big chap with an accent and a slow speaking manner. Aaargh!

Okay, suspend your disbelief, tie up your cynical tongues, 20 minutes of not very good film but still a joy to watch the energy (not a ley) line called St Mitchell that travels across England. Hamish Miller and Paul Broadhurst. In the end it is just one of the historys of our time.
