I confess to being an obsessive and indeed a bore about the subject so I won't say much but I would like to clarify that I'm not anti metal detecting at all, just anti-metal detecting bad practice - and so should everyone on TMA be because bad practice = loss of the historical knowledge that is the essence of TMA.

(BTW, my attitude and that of everyone on TMA hopefully, is totally identical to that of the CBA, http://new.archaeologyuk.org/best-practice so it's not exactly eccentric or ill-founded).
