Hah! The West Penwith wells are among my favourite... Something particularly... ancient about them. Sancreed is amazing. Carn Euny's wells are great, too. I understand the bridleway is a little less muddy nowadays.

Are you on Facebook? This group is well worth joining: https://www.facebook.com/groups/255462231185629/

Have you ever noticed the smallish concrete slab in the ground outside the rear exit of the fogou at Carn Euny Goff? If you haven't, next time you are visiting, lift it up and you'll see a water supply there direct from the well under that gert great rock with the tree on it just over the boundary I assume!! It's been lined in modern times but I've not put my hand in it (just in case I find a stop-cock to shatter the illusion!!)
As you are into Cornish wells (and Alken?), email me (addy in my profile) as I have something you may be interested in and possibly not know about.
Oh and no, don't do Faceache. Cheers, Roy

Ooh, I like a good mystery! OK - you've piqued my interest - will email soon! :)

And no - I've only visited Carn Euny's well once, and it was so muddy I didn't feel inclined to stay long... But now you've mentioned this I'll definitely go back and have a nose! Thank you!

I just love that HUGE rock over the well with the tree growing on the top of it and its roots running down the stone into the earth. That's determination for you :-)
I go to Carn Euny quite a lot as aside from my own visits I go with a tour company as a guest but have never encountered mud there. Lucky me!!

I'll await your email. It's my Yahoo addy. You won't be disappointed.

Could do with a tidy-up! ;p

You ever been to St Laurence's Chapel in Bradford-on-Avon? Nice to see some pre-Norman stonework surviving!

Beautiful, very much on my list of places to visit, but post-Norman Conquest.

Another little Saxon church at Alton Barnes and in the heart of prehistoric Wiltshire. In urgent need of funds to maintain it for future generations.

PS: Should also mention in one small area there are greensand springs which are the source of the river Avon and another tiny church in Alton Priors which has an ancient in the churchyard. A sacred and ancient feel to the place.
