Wunt swear to it but it could be a type of hay ruck.....I know of an identical set of stones by the ruins of White Springs Farm off Flash Lane in Matlock.

Could they be a type of staddle stone with the tops missing?

Some great photos there Stu.

And that one looks very similar to the mystery stones.

You could well be right mate as it looks similar. Not so sure about them being staddle stones tho, i'd already thought of them, aren't the flat tops more for grain stores to keep the rats and mice out? You might just manage to get meadow grasses to make hay on this land as it looks sheep or possible cattle pasture land and not arable as such.

Next time I'm up there I'll go without the dog and jump the wall to get some better pics.

Reminds me a bit of this.

Built of dressed stones from a defunct railway viaduct outside Muirkirk. Only a few hundred yards from Lightshaw.

I found this pic of saddle stones and support lintels for a hayrick at nearby Chatsworth (near the kids play area and pet zoo) so say 3 miles away?

Bang goes the hayrick theory as the stone shapes are nothing alike and they aren't going to change in design over such a short distance from each other

Well they're alike in that they've got four sides and are taller than they are wide. And they've been chipped about with tools. And they're not in a circle shape. And there's one or more in the middle of the group. Do you not have to agree, whatever the ones you spotted are, they're not very prehistoric looking?
