Is the stone real or am I barking up the wrong tree ? There are a few Tumuli around this site, malthern palace is close by, a couple of hill forts and Cearwent is just up the road. (Bloody Romans). "Nice one centurion" Ike

S'hard to say really. Obviously it's 'A' stone, could be prehistoric, could be a scratching post, could just be a bit of decorative stone, could of been a boundary marker. You'd have to check with CADW really, or maybe find out abut the occupant of the grave, or the history of the land on which the golf course/church is situated. Hell, sometimes a stone is just a stone :)

Hi Ike. The stone coffin lid you found dates from 1295. The stone has it's own webpage. http://www.data-wales.co.uk/golf2.htm P.S. if you think Romans sites may be slightly off topic..... check out the Bulstrode Tree Chimneys! http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/browse.php?site_id=529 Phil

Fancy a coffin lid having it's very own website. I'll bet the forum is dead quiet. If chimneys can stay, so can coffin lids from 1295 i guess. On the website it shows carved relief the one in the graveyard at Pierre doe's not. Perhaps it was just a poor knight. Thanks, Ike
