Is this the Harvest Moon or the Hunters' moon ? (It looked bloody lovely as it rose last night - sinister, malicious and very aloof). Maybe this was 'just a projection' ! Does anyone know the names to all thirteen of the annual lunations ? Please also see ( http://www.thedaze.co.uk/ ) david x

Yeah, I'm hoping to put a theory i saw about picking mushrooms under a full moon mentioned on another thread. Mind you, was hiking up in Welshpool over the weekend and came across a beautiful little hillfort called Beacon Ring which had some of the biggest shrooms i've ever seen (almost an inch across) growing along the inside of the western rampart (needless to say i've brought them home :). Also found out that they discovered a whole 'ritual monument' on the valley floor in 2000 whilst building a new bypass. it's called Sarn Y Bryn Caled and basically incorperates a cursus, henge (possible), ringwork, and timber circle and a few barrows, all in about 1/2 km (sadly there's nothing left to see as they bulit the bloody bypass over the middle of the timber circle), but it waould of held a commanding position looking down from the hills around the floodplane. Anyway, sorry to digress. Sorry, don't know the name of the thirteen lunar months, but i'm sure some head posting will.

Apparently we just have two and a large lump of Apollo 12.

You could try 'Ask a Librarian': http://www.ask-a-librarian.org.uk/ They promise to send you an answer in two working days, although the quality of the answer is rather variable. I got some excellent information from them on beards once! :-)# Kammer x

Those mushrooms are P. montana maybe. Not many people realise that the sheep eat them also. Unless they were on dung! (They're something else). I have asked the Librarian about the names of the lunations. d

This one's interesting http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moonnames.htm It seems that searching for lunation+names is crap. moon+names does much better

Dunno if they are P. Montana, still putting em' through the Cyanisis test. Mind you, i was picking last year and found some similar in size on grass verges alongside roads just outside Birmingham, so the biggies seem quite widespead.

Thanks So this is the Harvest Moon... I've been listening to an account of this year's Leonid shower, in late November. This seems like another interesting event ! david...
