Help Portugal's archaeology
May 20, 2002, 15:36
I've received this:

Dear friends

The Portuguese Minister of Culture has decided to merge IPA
(Instituto Português de Arqueologia) into IPPAR (Instituto Português
do Património Arquectónico) giving a sad end to an institution that,
since 1997, has managed to protect an regulate archaeology in
Portugal.

This decision will submit archaeology to the people (Architects) who
manage classified buildings and are not sensible to the specific
needs od archaeology.

Due to this decision, based on the claim thath the government must
save money, about 50 excelent technicians will loose their jobs and
four research centers will be closed: CNANS (for underwater
archaeology), CNART (for Rock art), CIPA (for human Paleoarchaeology)
and PAVC (for Coa Valley).

I am asking you to give your opinion about this in IPA's site forum
here:
http://www.ipa.min-cultura.pt/forum/forum/

Sign our petition against IPA's extintion ´here:

Spread the word everywhwere!

Thjought I'd do my bit.
