First post I left about the MA, someone suggested I needed a little catching up - you mention the White Goddess, Telepathine is hitting me with a copy of Burls book, and I keep seeing references to other books that drudes are reading. I'm an utter bookworm anyway and i've really got the bit between my teeth here, so - I'm looking for suggestions from other anti-qs as to a good read on the subjct(s).

I have a good librarry of stuff anyway on prehistory, art, mythology etc but like you say - i'm insatiable! Bring it on!

Not sure if required is the correct word but Shire Archaeology publish some excellent little (approx 50 pages) books. Including "Prehistoric Astronomy and Ritual" and "Prehistoric Henges" by Aubrey Burl.

You can get the full list at:

I'd have to say, from my point of view, these few are essential. though they only deal with the UK and closeby.

Prehistoric Anglesey - Frances Lynch - does exactly what the cover says, all things prehistoric and Anglesey related

Prehistoric Britain fron the Air - Timothy Darvill

Prehistoric Britain - Timothy Darvill

The Stone Circles of Britain Ireland and Brittany - Aubrey Burl (winging it's way to you as i write)

The Henge Monuments - Geoffrey Wainright. A little old now, though still an informative read.

Hengeworld - Mike Pitts (can be bought in paperback for about £8)

Stonehenge Decoded - Gerald s Hawkins a bit new agey, but OK

Origins of Britain - Lloyd And Jennifer Laing (pretty old this, so might be hard to come by)

Seahenge - Francis Pryor

Some of the new agey ones are worth picking up

The White Goddess - Robert Graves

The Avebury Cycle - Micheal Dames

and there's another by dames about Silbury, but can't remember the title.

Plus English Heritage have some good 'general' reads...The Bronze Age - Micheal Parker Pearson
The First Farmers, The Iron Age, Niall sharples etc...

Hope this helps
