I stopped by the site of Beorhtsige's Stone (the stone Brixton is named after) this morning on my way to work and found... nothing. Not that surprising really since its a site in the middle of an urban jungle.
What really dispirited me was that http://www.brixtonsociety.org.uk/trailone.htm mentions a boundary marker stone in the wall of a building on / near the spot. And its now a demolition site, with no buildings at all.
Bugger.
I'm not sure however of the antiquity of the now defunct stone since I am on a book embargo atm, and there isn't that much on the web dating it before 1100CE..
