Re: I love rock art...

Actually now you come to mention it...
Looking at the photos of the rock and with my just my own bit of knowledge of the area it does bear a resemblance to the surrounding landscape and valley. The rings on the right , nearest to the ladder - would describe Bowfell and the Langdale pikes, site of the axe factory. The parallel lines could correspond to the trackway, which incidently would pretty much be were the road through Langdale is now. Alternatively there is a river running through the valley (obviously!) which follows pretty much the same course. The marks on the top left would correspond to the hilltops on the far side of the valley or maybe even as far as Coniston and its surrounding mountains. It'll be interesting to get there and compare it to the OS map.
Excellent, I'm really excited now!

Another little thing that I have been working on is that more rings rings means higher hill. Cup mark means megalthic or other important site. So a cup mark with loads of rings would be a tomb on a high hilltop. Obviously some of these will not be there anymore.

I would really love to see what you find.

You lucky son of a gun!

We were just discussing that here - cup marks being burial sites etc. the idea of more rings meaning a higher mountain all fits with the photo (what I can make out) and the Langdale valley. I'm sure I'll have plenty of shots to put up on Monday, so we'll be able to test that idea better then.

Superb. If I'm right (I've been looking at this for ages and just need a few more examples) this could blow the whole show wide open.
