Worcester
Feb 05, 2002, 15:01
Hi folks,

I'm going to be around the Worcester area this weekend for some countryside tramping. I can't seem to find any sites to visit though as everything seems to be further south down in the cotswolds area.

So, as always, any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

take care,

scott

Mmmm, saucy! Lots of hillforts methinks - Bredon Hill (nr Evesham), Herefordshire Beacon (nr Ledbury) and Woodbury to the NW. No sign of older remains, though.

that's "Old Straight Track" country - where Ley Lines were invented! You'll be quids in, no probs

failing that, my uncle lives up there, he's pretty old. Would you like to see him?

Hi folks. Thanks as always.

Worcester MA? That's a bit far for the weekend, everything else looks great.

And RG, although I'd love to meet your uncle, I'm sure the last thing he'd want is some muddy trampers showing up at his door!

A full report will follow on Monday.

Wot, are you wheeling him out for his bi annual bath or something.
Scott, take a walk from Colwall (West side of the Malvern hills) up towards British Camp, then onto Midsummer Hill, Both are wonderfull examples of Hillforts. There's also a great pool in a disused quarry at the foot of Midsummer Hill. The views up towards British Camp from Colwall are spectacular, you can really see how it commanded views over the valleys on both sides. If your feeling energetic you can retrace tour steps and walk the rest of the hogs back down to Malvern Link. there is supposed to be remains of a Bronze Age barrow up near the Herefordshire beacon but it's so eroded I've never seen it myself. Wrap up warm though, as there is always a hearty wind up on the hogs back, even in summer. Have a good trip. Breedon Hill is also great, lot's of nice footpaths and bridal ways.

Excellent. You folks never let me down. I've got enough to do for a week now, much less a weekend!

oh, I seem to remember something about the Castlemorton Festival, and munters escaping the carnage and hoofing up to a hillfort overlooking the festy site ...

just checked http://www.ordsvy.gov.uk/ ... yep, that's Midsummer Hill/Fort

it's really nice around there, when there aren't 40,000 mashed travellers ....

which reminds me ... it's the 10th Anniversary of Castlemorton this year, and celebrations *are* planned ...
