"I do EYE down my rods, if I look along them and line up on say a tree, it saves time, just walk to the tree, and then pick up again on the line, I can go for miles without actually checking the rods."

That's me rendered utterly speechless then!

I am speechless Kevin because I might have driven to see you line your rods on a distant tree, walk to it and then tell me there was a straight line from there back to your departure point, when I could have been tidying my sock drawer.
Grrrr.

Ah - the blindfold's teh clever bit...

Not really. I was just thinking it would prevent you from scoping the place out before you went inside... A blind test, if you like...

It's all incidental anyway - I can't afford to rent out an aircraft hangar. And if I could, I'd probably think of a much better use for it! Or can I? No. Actually I can't... Dang, where's my imagination gone?

No problem as far as I'm concerned - better than all the cods that's going on up there!

And besides... I find it quite erotic...

OK Kevin, it's like this.

If you are able to walk in a dead straight line up hill and down dale for a long distance then clearly you are guided by "something".

To convince anyone that that something is the something you say it is it is clearly necessary to eliminate the possibility that you aren't following a something that's something else, like a landscape feature, a cloud, a fence post on top of a hill, or a tree.

Hence the blindfold.

I've said it before, but here goes....
This would be a pretty dull forum if the only people who were allowed to post here were psuedo scientists. There's nothing wrong with a bit of poetic speculation surely.
The sites we all love mean all kinds of things to all sorts of people - I notice a lot of people here show an interest in stuff like samhain, imbolc etc, and no one attacks them for their beliefs.
I think there's one or two here that sh*t higher than their arses, and may be a little bitter about not being real, proper archaelogists perhaps?
Also worth pointing out that there's plenty in J Copes ouevre that would be shot down in flames by some on this forum.
As for dowsing - I was always sceptical. I had a go once, the rods moved but I've no idea why. Interesting and harmless, imo.

Personally, I'm just fed up with the whole dowsing thing. I started off with a healthy belief that yes, dowsing is a real phenomenon, and that certain things (water etc) CAN be dowsed... but now I never want to hear about it ever again!

So what if Kevin can dowse? How does that affect anything? What if I were to say that I have mastered lucid dreaming, and every night I go to many weird and wonderful places that nobody has ever been before? I may enjoy it, but I can't prove it, you'd just have to take my word for it, and it affects absolutely nobody here one jot! And on the strength of that, I'd imagine people would soon tire of my tales of purple rivers, flying dolphins and edible clouds...

And it's also bullshit. I rarely remember my dreams any more, and when I do they're normally about going to work in my pants or something.

I think I've made my point. ;o)

You're right Wiggy. Dowsing is interesting and harmless. People drumming on about it in the same manner that obviously cheeses people off is dull and tortuous, though. Making the same old same old claims on this forum does not improve Cropedy's chances of being believed or understood. I ppersonally can not understand why he continues doing it here.

Please humour me and define a 'proper archaeologist' for me so that I can decide if I'd like to be one :-). Do you mean someone with a bit of paper that says they've spent four years being told what's what or do you mean someone with many more years of field experience that has tried to find out what's what for themselves and maybe come up with a few new ideas? Or maybe you think both are necessary. Do you have to dig and wear a multi-coloured jumper or a silly hat to be a proper archaeologist? Do you have to have published several papers in respectable periodicals? Do you have to know how every bit of geo-fiz equipment works? Or perhaps you have to be able to fly a plane and know how to process LIDAR data?
