Yep! We stayed here.

Its very central on the 'Mainland' and very, very peaceful. Comes highly recommended by the four of us who stayed there.

Have fun!

Yes! We stayed in 2 wonderful places - one overlooking the Ring O'Brogar and the Stones of Stenness (and Maes Howe & the Watchstone, etcetc...) and the other which overlooked Cuween Chambered Cairn (The Fairy Knowe) and the Bay of Firth... Fantastic...

I'll dig out the details...

Mrs Wild Wooder and I will be going to the Orkneys in June and will be there on 20th/21st June, Solstice time. As we'll be staying very close to the Stones of Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar, does anyone know whether there will be any pagan activity?

We were there that time last year & I don't think there was much, if anything. But we aren't particularly into it & were staying far enough from the most likely places that we may just not have noticed....

I'd imagine that there'll've been some folks gathered at Brogar etc, tho I suspect not very many. Mr Hob was staying nearer & might know, but I know that (like us) despite 'good intentions' he & the lovely Mrs Hob didn't make the sunrise....

love

When I came to Orkney as a digger, many moons ago, some folk used to gather at the Standing Stones of Stenness for the summer solstice.

If you mean remote as in remote within Orkney then the areas to try are Deerness and Birsay and Orphir and South Ronaldsay.
http://www.visitorkney.com/accommodation.html has a link to search the VisitScotland site for your requirements (http://www.visitscotland.com/accommodation/accommodation/?view=Standard) and another to download a .pdf of accomodation in Orkney (http://www.visitorkney.com/download.html).

Not instigated by anyone local as far as I know, a friend who lives on Mainland is very much still in the broom closet with absolutely no intention of coming out as in their words, any open admission of a resident being Pagan results in hostility/ostracisation and that's the last thing anyone needs in such a small community.
