rant on the ?british museum
Jul 30, 2001, 22:03
i took my lad down to london this weekend for a couple of days of traipsing around to see examples of all the stuff that he's into.
we went to the natural history museum to check out the dinosaurs and the blue whale......to cut a long story short, we went to the british museum to check out the mummys (big mummys boy , my lad) after this we went in search of prehistory, mainly to please his ould fella, guess what we dicovered....nowt! british pre-history begins with the celts and the bronze age....neolithic, like it never happened! I find it a bit gauling that our national repository of all things ancient can devote room after room to ancient greece, rome etc and virtually nothing to the native peoples of britain.
i found lindow man tucked into a corner well out of the way, this one very moving exhibit seemed to typify the whole thang.
this aside, me and the wee man had a ball.
