Proper forests have more biodiversity. But if they're bloody pine plantations they don't. All those lovely moors, covered in midgey infested, trunk-crowded, sterile, rectilinear vileness. Bleurgh!
Now ancient pine forests, they're a different matter entirely, absolutely out of this world. Lovely fractally sphagnumy licheny wondrousness, filled with fauna (and slightly scary to boot).
