Winter is Borne!
Jan 08, 2004, 17:28
I just walked down to Avebury and as I got to the bridge
I watched the water start to flow towards Silbury.
I took a sequence of pics as the river bed filled up until it got dark.
Here's a quick animated gif

More later!

What is that rive bewteen Silbury and West kennet? Last easter we gazed into it marvelling at the beauty and clarity, like a chalkbed stream, it is hypnotizing!

And Pete, that's indeed a great moment you captured :-)

Would be nice to see the moon reflected in that...

The Winterbourne river is said to be the real source of the River Kennet. The springs at Swallowhead greatly enhance the amount of water fed into the final river as it flows towards Marlborough.
The bridge I stood on to take the pics is where 2 tributaries meet, One from Winterbourne bassett (very near the stone circles there) and the other from Yatesbury.
If I get the chance I'll try to get a pic of the moons reflection but it won't be easy with a digital camera.

It's tricky, and you need a tripod and self timed release. Under a Silbury Moon! I'll be trying that myself later in the year, good luck sirrah, and thanks for sharing, it's a joyful image.

Joyful image my eye, doesn't anyone else suspect he staggered out of the Red Lion, let rip over the bridge and filmed the result?!

Joy is most often a fleeting and serendipitous moment!

Hmm, Maybe it was the NT officers pissing themselves?

The shaky animation makes virtually all avant garde art appear as posture. It also hints at the gigantic changes underway with climate change.
