Oh and Jane, I forgot to say,... stop posting beautiful paintings of ancient sites in the artistic/interpretative section of a site about ancient sites. Unforgivable. You're just like a troll!

This is one of the best responses I've ever seen on any of the forums here. 100% on the money.

Who's going to answer it then?

just because...

..the mighty axe hasn't fallen yet. It's been hinted it's in the offing y'know.

I think guineapigs are great. And I feel quite guilty that I never took mine to an ancient site.

Time to have my say, Rog....
Aug 12, 2003, 15:21
You say: "Anyway I’m sure ill get some stick from the above mentioned people." Yes! but as an open-minded bunny, you'll allow me to express my opinion, Rog!

Point one:
Yes - I post pictures I have painted onto this site. Other people post photographs onto this site. Some people express themselves in paint, others on film. Some only in words. All are subjective expressions of the way people see, feel, remember and experience ancient sites. A photograph is no more objective than a painting. Many of the paintings I post here are either already sold or not for sale. I do not need to 'advertise' my paintings. They are good enough to sell themselves. If people don't want to look at them, they don't have to. I am not, nor have I ever been a hypocrite, a conservative or a communist. Artist, yes. Amateur interest in ancient places, yes. It is therefore only natural that I should express my interest and love for these places in paint and not film. Why should a painter be barred from submitting her no-less-subjective-than-a photograph images to this website? Is there anywhere that says: No Paintings. Photos only? Not that I am aware of. Apart from you, Rog, I have only ever received positive comments from TMA folk about my pictures. Indeed it is a pleasure for me to be able to share my images with TMA folk. Julian Cope once wrote to me that 'he digs my vibe'. I take that as an affirmative. If you don't like them, then that's fine. Don't look at them.

The great Pablo Picasso (perhaps you've heard of him?, 20th century, Spanish) once said: "Art is a lie which makes us realise the truth." May I strongly suggest that you think very carefully about this. It will mean you have to open your mind a bit.

Point two:
Dominic Brayne's posts last week kicked off a discussion which was about the inappropriateness of posts. His posts weren't 'on topic' and clearly deviated from the zeitgeist of this website. In view of the discussions we had on this forum about 3 weeks ago about what was suitable, how it shoudl be presented and so on, Dominic's newness to the site clearly showed and he was asked to review his posts to keep them on topic. Whether we (TMAers) sympathise with his beliefs is utterly irrelevant. What we think of him is utterly irrelevant. If his posts are 'on topic' and fall within Holy McGrails Guidelines then he should be allowed to post them if he so wishes. We are a 'broad church'. Dominic showed what a cool dude he was by apologising for his initial mistakes (at being new to the website) and rectifying the errors almost immediately. He has since made more posts which are relevant on topic, well-written and carefully observed, and are therefore all valid. I welcome him warmly as a new face round these parts. The fact he has a guinea pig is cool. I have cats. Don't you have pets, Rog?

There are pagans, witches, agnostics, Christians, atheists and all manner of folk who post to this website. It's this broad base which makes for interesting discussions, I think. So - we hardly all believe the same thing.

I will defend your right to say what you like. But to accuse me of hypocracy is deeply hurtful and therefore I would wish you to fuck right off, shove something sharp up the pipe of your penis and let's get back to talking about big old rocks.
love to everyone else
