Naughties At Wayland's
May 15, 2003, 18:34
Or planning to do so . . . .

I think the old photos *should* stay; they are a unique insight into the sites, and enable us to see what they looked like a hundred years or so ago, which is all a valid part of their history and ours.

As far as copyright goes, Henry Taunt's copyright ended 70 years after his death, but as English Heritage have the collection, they will have bought the copyright. So be careful. I would think the best plan is to write and ask for use of the image, purely as a historical element with regard to the theme and interests of this site - explaining how the site is set up, or else they'll want money. They may still want money. As previously stated, as a photographer with an interest in using some of their sites for commercial use, they haven't been overly helpful, but this may be different.

And after the Uffington debacle, it might be a *very very* good time to try and get them 'onside' with us, so we can help each other out in future.

Oh whoops, there's my democratic socialist principles popping up again . . . !

t'chops xx
