Is it just me, or has the hype regarding this year’s Eurovision Song Contest gone way beyond reason this year? The bastard thing hasn’t even happened yet but it’s already garnered more TV news (BBC especially) and newspaper coverage than I’ve ever known in my sixty-odd years of existence. I can’t get away from it. In fact, even the sodding coronation seems unsung next to it. I’m not usually bothered about populist kack like this, but the hype in this instance is fucking suffocating. Please, please, stop it.

The mainstream media are treating their viewers like infants. Appalling programmes geared to smooth away anything even vaguely challenging to our senses. Previews, reminders and recaps take up most television time.
I'm getting to be a cantankerous old duffer.
