Soundtracks to Our Lives W/E 8/3/03
Mar 09, 2003, 03:58
Hello everyone and welcome to Happy Birthday Soundtrax To Our Lives. This weekend marks the first anniversary of Soundtrax and before I launch into the usual what I listened to this week type stuff I just want to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to Soundtrax over the last 12 months. I hope it has proved a catalyst for some good musical discussions, prompted the reappraisal of long forgotten records, stimulated curiosity into uncharted waters and led to the acquisition of music by new bands and satisfied a bit of curiosity along the way as to what your fellow Head Heritagers are listening to.

Anyway to business and was has featured on the hi fi of Joolio over the last week?

This is the week that long awaited when we finally went to see the Porcupine Tree 8-) so unsurprisingly the have featured quite heavily on this weeks listening: -
Porcupine Tree Live at the Bloomsbury – May 1999 2 disc set from the Stupid Dream Tour – top stuff
In Absentia – the new album – still unbelievably ignored by the music press in the UK
Signify from 1996 stunning 8-)

Incidentally caught the Tree in action twice this week, at Wolverhampton on Tuesday and Shepherds Bush on Saturday and they were fantastic great lightshow at the London gig too

Blind Faith welcome run out for the deluxe edition of their only release from 1969 great record good late nite listening.

Spirit – The Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus – another old fave dusted down and given a few spins this week on of the best west coast psyche LP’s in my opinion anyway.

James Brown - The Payback need I say more 8-)

Sir Lord Baltimore – whoa seriously kick ass rock and roll

Chains and Black Exhaust- excellent gritty driving funk meisterwerk oh yes ……….

A clutch of new stuff winged its way to me this week: -

From Joudicacacacacaca
Mr Quimby’s Beard – Shrouded In Mystery – UK psyche act taking their cue from Hawkwind and Gong – great stuff
Hawkwind – Nite of the Hawks – good compilation of up to the mid 80’s material
Psychedelic Warriors – trippy psyche stuff

From TpS
The Boredom’s favourable 1st impressions on this one
Savage – a funk soundtrack cool stuff indeed 8-)

And I think that’s about all from me.

Have a good week,

Joolio
Still raining, still dreaming
