Reminds me of that Phillip Jeck piece 'Vinyl Requiem', where he set up about 25 Dansette record players to start at different times, causing an unholy sound - but pretty interesting.

I also saw their 1998 boombox concert at the Forum in Kentish Town, although I wasn't one of the lucky 50 people onstage (which, if memory serves me correctly, included Sonic Boom , Tim Gane, Martin Carr and Kevin Shields). I remember one section which featured 50 out-of-sync tapes of a baby crying, adding up to a hysterical day nursery effect which scared the shit out of me (although that could have been down to the erm, recreational
enhancement I was experiencing at the time).
I've tried the 4 CD-player thing a couple of times, and I also have a one CD copy which myself and some friends mixed down to DAT in the studio where I work. Obviously this ismn't as good, as you lose the random factor and the music is the same every time you listen, but it actually doesn't work too badly as a conventional album and I can't really be bothered to set up 4CD players on a regular basis, to be honest.
