There's a discussion of people not leaving the stage for encores ala JC going on at RockingVicar at the moment. This made me laugh:

"Ivor Cutler took a more extreme position on encores for the elderly when I saw him a while back. He told the audience they were about to hear the last song and after that he wouldn't be doing an encore because he was an old man and didn't do them anymore. After the last song there was thunderous applause during which Ivor sat quietly at his keyboard. When the last drop of appreciation had been milked from the audience he said 'you must think I'm REALLY stupid', got up and walked offstage. Ivor had left the building."
