Soundtracks To Our Lives W/E 22/2/03
Feb 23, 2003, 00:12
Good morning –

Hope that you are all having a good weekend - its been a weird week this one, long working hours have meant that I haven’t plundered the record collection as much as I would have liked so here is the round up of the last weeks listening.

The most played album of the week is an old fave can’t fault it – Deep Purple in Rock – the 25th Anniversary edition – still a stunning, powerful masterwork.

Also getting some repeat play The Rotter’s Club + by Hatfield and the North courtesy of Fitter Stoke (thank you for sending it down) – jury is still out on this one so far – technically excellent music but at first glance is more serious and lacking the quirkiness and accessibility of Caravan. But its early days yet and as I have consistently proved to myself albums that don’t click straight away have a nice habit of suddenly gelling without warning a little further down the road – see In Absentia by the Porcupine Tree, Exile on Main Street the Rolling Stones and many more……….. so watch for further appearances by Hatfield and the North.

Talking of the Tree In Absentia remains on the play list although has only been dipped into rather than given repeat listening, similarly Benefit by Jethro Tull has been skimmed through as opposed to being granted heavy rotation.

This weekend I have also been dipping into a few of the CD’s sent down to me by various people. So getting a spin Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man – Out of Season sent down by Moey – a nice lush way to chill out last night after the stress of the last week – will be revisiting this one again. Gothed out a bit aswell with two from Angel of the North – firstly Children by The Mission not played this in years and it’s a lot better than I remember it being at the time, secondly Nocturnal a double CD compilation of goth stuff Sisters, Nephs etc – top stuff. Time to dig out those pointy boots over a foot long ;-)

My walk to work music has been a self made Hawkwind compilation and The Isness by Amorphous Androgynous.
Spoken word stuff has kept me company whilst burning the midnight oil in the office in the shape of The Crow Road. More specifically the soundtrack of the series which I transferred to MD to listen to in the car on the long journey to the north – a great story love it - love Verity Walker aswell ;-) haha

Finally up a live JC disc from Discover Avebury to psyche myself up for our jaunt to Avebury today.

And that’s me

Over to you lot

Still raining, still dreaming
