Acid Mothers Temple....????? I am lost.
Feb 21, 2003, 21:43
ok, as a totally new listener of AMT I feel deeply overwhelmed by their monstrous sonic work; literally don´t know where to hit first... Which is the right cd to start with? I tried www.acidmothers.com but it made me feel more lost yet.

Anybody who lights my way, pleeeeeaaaase!

Peace on us!!!

popular opinion on here seems to be that La Novia is the place to start, im inclined to agree.

did you see that page on there with the covers of all the records they've been involved in? about 160 in the last ten years! Be daunted.
I do think that being so prolific means u don't always get quality tho'

I agree with that but among all of that massive stuff there must be something worthy.

Start anywhere, man....what else can you do with a discography as daunting and ever-growing as theirs?!!

My first encounter was the "Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O." album....then a year and a half later, I found myself in a foreign country watching them perform "La Novia" live!

Father Moo & The Black Sheep is quite good for a pre-sleep, "Affenstunde"-type chill-out

Hello! Yep i sort of fell in the acid mothers melting pot by accident (ie money in pocket and the depresseed need to buy something!,or piss it up the wall in t'pub) i lucked out and got Absolutely Freakout(Zap your Mind) which seems a good place to start featuring lokts of extended early THE pink floyd space jams, quiter song interludes the whole mish mash of temple expereince as i understand it (little i'll admit).Old Copey recomends PAtaphysical Freakout MU!,which i've not heard...its sort of HOW MANY do you need?....I was told on buying 'Freakout' (naturally coerced by my baser instincts cos of naked gurls on the front .hurr, hurr) by my friendly alt record store chappy, that i would find it 'offensive'...being form a more garage punk background y'understand..so i shamefaceldy walked away and bought it cheaper somewhere else...It's great......i then follwed up with 'do what you want ,dont do what you doint want!' which is a compilation of one hor long and marvellous acid mothers rag rock thing and then all their offshoots and friends, all interestiung, not all marvy tho....Then in a sale in got ,on VINYL no less the sublime and far different to make it all the more confusing, "La Novia"...starts of with monkish chanting and takes off other 2 sides of a simple 5 note pattern which rises ,fades, rises, extemporises and fades again...its bloody bliss (if you like dat sort of thing)...I'd go for that,easi;y....Id certainly NOT go for the new one " ELECTRIC HEAVYLAND" which is 4 tracks of sheer noise, and went straight back to the shop....i bet yr even more confused,eh....why not just get some head to tape some for you? (i'd be willing)....cheers...

Yes there's lots of worthwhile stuff - but it does tend to get a bit overwhelming. For starting off...Could could do worse than get:
*the long version of Pink Lady Lemonade (off the triple cd set on earworm)
*La Novia
*Universe zen ou la zero de zero
*Troubadours from ...
*Infinite Love (makoto solo) or one of his others - the swordfish live lp is good too as is "moonshine"
*Pataphysical on double vinyl with a 40 min version of Blue Velvet blues (tho only the first 20 minutes are interesting imo)
mail me if you want some "tasters"

La Novia seems to be very popular round here; I´ll try to get it and maybe that one you got first.

Thank you man.
