Although I've got a sea of CDs all over the floor and racks of them bunged together at random at the moment, I do occasionally get round to reordering them into a system I worked out a couple of years ago when I started getting fed up spending half an hour trying to find a specific CD. Anyway the idea is to file together CDs which have the same colour on the spine bit, so you end up with a shelf of blue, big shelves of white and black, a shelf of red etc. Now, this looks good in a poncey interior design way, but you'd also be surprised at how easy it is to remember that a certain album has a green or red side. It narrows down the search, at least and is very purty. Ummm, that all sounds a bit weird, but it beats religious alphabeticism, and trust me it works.
