Granny?
Feb 07, 2003, 11:42
I heard an item on the Radio 4 news last night about some record breaking eBay, well, records yesterday. It was by an "obscure 70's rock band" called Granny and apparently self pressed.

Anyone know anything about them?

Can't say I know anything about Granny in particular but there's a whole collecting scene attached to these private pressings (typically prog and folk) from the early 70s. They tend to be more prized for their rarity than the music within although there are exceptions - e.g. US band Dark and Peter Howell of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop's various efforts (Ithaca, Agincourt, Alice through the Looking Glass). Labels like Kissing Spell tend to reissue them if they're any good, if not you're probably not missing out on too much. But hey, if you've got 1400 squid burning a hole in your pocket...

'Grannie 1971 private pressing of 99copies,homemade sleeve'is the Record Collector listing. Not very illuminating. They list it at £750.He got £1000+ on eBay.Can't find a listing for it there though.Nice work if you can get it.
