Mick nicked the line from Love's paean to menstruation 'She Comes In Colors' from the Da Capo album...

She Comes in Colors

"A thought in my head (I think) of something to do
Expressions tell everything, I see one on you
When I was invisible, I needed no light
You saw right through me (you said) was I out of sight?

My love, she comes in colors
You can tell her from the clothes she wears

When I was in England town, the rain fell right down
I looked for you everywhere, I could not be found
A thought in my head (I think) of something to do
Expressions tell everything, I see one on you

My love, she comes in colors
You can tell her from the clothes she wears"

Lee had brazenly nicked from the Stones a couple of times prior to that. "Revelation" bears striking resemblance to "Goin' Home" and "Can't Explain" is an obvious rewrite (barely) of "What a Shame".

But it's all good!

I could be wrong (not sure of the exact date), but i believe they both nicked the phrase from Tim Leary. Will try to track down a definitive reference.

"Love's paean to menstruation" - is it really ? I never got that, but I suppose you can't have too many period songs.

I can only think of two others:

"Until your blood runs to meet the next full moon, your madness fits in neatly with my own"
(Robert Wyatt, Sea Song)

and

"If I could bleed in sympathy with you on those days"
(Jonathan Richman, Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste)

any other menstrual lyrics anyone can call to mind?

it would appear that it is about smoking fags and beating women and not about menstruation, altho' it might be depending on how many levels you think the lyrics work on:

http://www.leoslyrics.com/listlyrics.php?sid=%10%7D%DA%C1%F7%8F%3F%40

but as it was also covered by guns'n'roses, it probably works on only the obvious one.
