Just been told he's playing in London in March. Does anyone know of any other dates in the UK?

Yeah, there's an awful tendancy for folk to not be touring these days. Which is crap, really. I've seen Richman 11 times now. Fucken great. And, a lovely man.

I was recently thinking about starting a Richman thread here. Had to dig out the Modern Lovers album a while back to show where the Strokes got all their tunes. (I know the Lovers had just stolen everything from the Velvets - but they do have a distinct sound.) It were a great reminder.

My favourite Jonathon song is "You're The One" from Jonathon Sings.

The three Rough Trade albums in the late 80s were brilliant. Can't choose one track! Brilliant live then, too! Johnny Avilla playing a drum solo on 'Born To Be Wild' on a single snare drum! Wow!
Saw him one time, with two acoustic guitars as accompaniment and during one song Jonathan steps in front of the microphone and motions to the crowd to be quiet so he can carry on singing without amplification. The guitarists both stop, Jonathan sings, then stops, and everyone in the hall can see him dancing to a song that everyone can hear, but no-one is playing! He then goes back behind the mike and he and the guitars carry on, not from where they had left it, but from it was, mid verse, as if they'd been playing all along, without having missed a single beat! We were all open-mouthed! An awesome performer!

As I lived in Boston for many years I saw Jonathan frequently on his jaunts through town in any number of configurations, but Yes,his performance with just the snare accompaniment or even solo /him,guitar and feet is something else..

Some faves post-original Modern Lovers..."Affection","Back in Your Life","That Summer Feeling","The Fenway",'It's You","The Desert"

Picked up a few albums after that, (s/t & '88) which were enjoayable, but I stopped following him after that, though I stil saw him lve a few times
..that's been awhile though..

His country album is genius.

Perfect description of his live performances, H.

I've just logged on with the intention of e-mailing your good self. He's in Edinburgh and Glasgow tonight and tomorrow, I'm told. Thought you would be making at least one of them. I'm tempted to haul my ass up to Liverpool on Thursday, but I want to know that he's awesome, and not just good, on this tour, before I do. Apparently he has a band playing with him. Not seen that for many a year... Let me know if I should go, aqk. And have fun tomorrow, you jammy b*****d!
