Flying Wig – Devendra Banhart
Already sounding like one of his finest releases in a long, long time.
Inland Delta - Biosphere
Only played it the once so far and on first listen it didn't sound a s great as some of his other albums. I will give it time though!
Popular Problems – Leonard Cohen
I think this was my favourite album of 2014. Hearing it again now, it seems almost like a warm up for the even better You Want It Darker. The wonderful Almost Like The Blues would have fitted very nicely on that fabulous swansong.
Turn The Car Around – Gaz Coombes
I still haven't played this enough but it's a real grower.
My Aim Is True – Elvis Costello
Here's one I hadn't heard in a long time! Obviously lumped into the punk/new wave thing at the time (1977), but it was obvious early on that Elvis had a few extra strings to his bow – for better or worse, no-one else in that movement was releasing songs like Alison at that time. Listening to the album now it's almost pub-rock sounding at times, even if it's the American band Clover rather providing the backing.
Flicker – Death & Vanilla
Unless I missed something, this is their first release in a while. It doesn't disappoint either.
Trouble On Big Beat Street – Pere Ubu
Veers from the 'challenging' to an unlikely cover of Crazy Horses which works better than you might expect.
Entangled Routes – Pye Audio Corner
One of my favourite and most played albums of recent years.
The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte - Sparks
Enjoyably bonkers.
