One of the true originals of modern music has passed today. To classify her work as merely jazz would be to underestimate her art, which encompassed so much more. Her best known work will always be 'Escalator Over The Hill' which, for all its nutty libretto (not hers) contains some stunning music. Rest in peace, Carla.
