Sabres of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall / Theme EP (CDs)
Third track on the Theme EP 'Edge 6' was this weeks firm fav. Actually
The best version of Theme (Theme II) was on the Select mag cassette 'Secret Tracks'. Some lovely soul has uploaded it to youtube if you've not heard it. Wonderful stuff. Theme II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt9UG10Kkl4

Bowie singing Games Without Frontiers is a pretty funny imitation. The guy does a bunch of other videos to, good fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqF74Xllqc4 Bowie -
Hit Me WIth Your Rhythm Stick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ikx1sOb2Vo
One for Keith A... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR1rL5PfY54

Cabaret Voltaire - Mix Up/ Voice Of America
Still nothing sounds as weird and out there as the Mix Up album. Can't say it's one of my fav albums, it's just too unsettling for that (I'd say weirder than T.G. tbh, but that's just my opinion) but it's one I return to periodically. Photophobia is prob my fav track on it.

VCMG - SSSS
Do wish they'd follow this up with more of the same. Production values are amazing too. Sounds stunning on a proper hifi.

Mad Professor - Psychedelic Dub
Not his best dub effort.

Miniman - Inside
Nice Digi Dub

Sex Pistols 76-77
Friend sent me some rips of this, as I wasn't gonna fork for it. I'm, sure there were plenty of bootlegs of these, but I've never heard them. What surprises me about many of these early recordings is how 'polite' they sound. None of the rough edges of the album cuts. Also puts to death the rumour put about at the time that they couldn't play. They play plenty good.

Normil Hawaians Dark World (79-81)

Hawkwind - Somnia/In Search Of Space
Fatalist is right, new album is a corker.

Julian Cope - Phoenix Festival 93
This is such a life affirming set. Shows why he works best with a proper band behind him. Worth listening to/watching fer the live version of Safesurfer alone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2VC4ns-_eY

Julian Cope - Autogeddon

Various - Sherwood at the Controls Vol 1+2

Disrupt - Foundation Bit

Pop Group - We Are Time

MX 80 Sound - Out of Tunnels/ Crowd Control

The Damage Manual - The Damage Manual

Lumerians - Call Of The Void/ Fuzz Club Sessions

Beck - Mellow Gold

Death Grips - Ex Military/ The Money Store

Coil - Horse Rotorvator

Julie's Haircut - Our Secret Ceremony

That's About It, Keep Well All.x

Stevie Riks! Yeah he's good. I've seen a lot of his video's but good to watch that Dr Bolan one again. I'd not heard that Games Without Frontiers version before so thanks for that. Works really well!

Opeth ‘Ghost Reveries’ - no-one does the contrast between tender and (very) heavy music so devastatingly well as Opeth. And here they do it superlatively;
Muse ‘Drones’ - and what a racket this trio can nurture;
Blackberry Smoke ‘You Hear Georgia’ - which could’ve been made forty years ago, yet still sounds fresh. Hard rock and southern boogie in perfect accord;
Big Big Train ‘Common Ground’ - a bit of a mish-mash of styles this time around for the Train, with probably the most upbeat sounding song about lockdown you’ll ever hear. But the magic of their new album comes later, particularly with ‘Apollo’ and the epic ‘Atlantic Cable’;
Tangerine Dream ‘Phaedra’ - still my go-to Tangs LP, those unique and wonderful Ohr albums notwithstanding;
The Who ‘My Generation’ - not a classic debut, though it has its moments;
Lou Reed ‘Coney Island Baby’ -borne out of financial desperation as it was, there’s an element of crowd pleasing about this record but some cool stuff too: the amazing ‘Kicks’, for example;
David Crosby ‘For Free’ - I’ve said it here before: this is a fabulous album, irrespective of its creator entering his ninth decade. Do try to hear this;
Van der Graaf Generator ‘Godbluff’ (2021 remix) - maybe not as revelatory as the ‘Still Life’ revamp, but still sounding great. And what an album;
Beethoven: Symphony no.5 (Staatskapelle Dresden/Herbert Blomstedt) - excellent, powerful performance with a beautifully poised second movement, in my view the heart of this perfect symphony. You can pick up Blomstedt’s entire 1977 Dresden Beethoven cycle for just a few quid on Brilliant Classics and it’s finer than many bigger named, more expensive sets;
Shostakovich: String Quartet no.4 (Hagen Quartet) - music that stays just the right side of tonal, played with appropriate commitment by the Hagens;
Dvorak: String Quartet no.1, Op.2 (Prague String Quartet) - goes on for far too long, but has enough lyricism to hold the interest.

Thanks for reading, and keep on enjoying your music. It’s a true and faithful friend, far more so than anyone outside of one’s own mother and father can ever be. IMHO of course.

I'd not come across him before, did made me laugh. He has those Bowie mannerisms and voice down pat. I really wondered if Bowie had done some sneaky version of Games Without Frontiers when I first tuned in :)

Original Sound Of Sheffield ‘83/87 - Cabaret Voltaire
For obvious reasons.

Around - Thought Bubble
Kid Calamity and friend on fine form here. Opening track is particularly good. Splending looking packaging, too (always loved that artwork).

Alan Vega After Dark - Alan Vega
Us Alan Vega fans are being spoilt this year. First we had Mutator where Jared Artaud of The Vacant Lots got to work with some raw, unmixed mid-90’s recordings by Vega and his wife Liz Lamere. Overall, it was a pretty uncompromising album, but one I like a lot. Now we get this, a previously unreleased late-night session with Pink Slip Daddy members Ben Vaughn, Barb Dwyer, and Palmyra Delran shortly before Vega died and there is talk that it includes his last vocal performance. And it's bloody great - so ignore the misguided three star Mojo review! Vega had previously worked with Vaughn on the excellent Cubist Blues that the two made with Alex Chilton and there is a similar feel here. Tight and loose at the same, with bits of rockabilly and a great drum sound. And Al sounding as fabulous as ever.

Also…
Memory Device - Baba Ali

Lodger - David Bowie

Carnage - Nick Cave & Warren Ellis

Children Of Zion - Culture

Luxury Variations EP - CZN

Beautiful Rewind - Four Tet

Hey What - Low

Mental Home Recordings - Philip Parfitt
