Rod Stewart ‘An Old Raincoat Won’t Ever Let You Down’ - forget what he became: his debut is a solid gold ‘69 classic, right up there with Zep 1 to my jaded lugs;
Kevin Ayers ‘Joy of a Toy’ - another great debut from ‘69, never bettered by its creator;
Julian Cope ‘Autogeddon’ - as fresh as the day it was released;
Thin Lizzy ‘Nightlife’ - my fave Lizzy LP, soulful and rocking in equal measure);
Peter Hammill ‘Fool’s Mate’ - yet another fine debut, this time from 1971: the nearest Hammill’s ever come to a “regular” singer-songwriter record. Dated, but charming;
Magazine ‘Real Life’ - incredibly assured debut with max John Barry factor. Love this as much as I did in ‘78;
Gillan ‘Mr Universe’ - Ian’s best non-Purps album to my ears;
Clearlight ‘Forever Blowing Bubbles’ - forgotten French prog with a Gong-like vibe, hampered only by a hopelessly out of tune piano;
Tommy Bolin ‘The Ultimate Tommy Bolin’ - terrific late 80s comp exemplifying Bolin’s virtuosity across jazz, blues and rock genres
Jim Capaldi ‘Whale Meat Again’
Jim Capaldi ‘Oh How We Danced’ - two thoroughly enjoyable albums from the early 70s, sounding suitably Traffic-like;
Gentle Giant ‘Civilian’ - radio friendly final outing, some way from their proggy origins but so much better than kack like ‘Duke’ or ‘Drama’ that bigger selling contemporaries were dumping on the 1980 populace.

No, just a kind of random play. I had been talking to somebody about the Scottish music scene in the early eighties and had recalled seeing them playing outdoors at the Ross Bandstand in Glasgow before they hit it big. Not birthday until end of September.

Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express/ RadioactivityMan Machine/ Computer World/ The Mix. What can you say that hasn't already been said?? Wonderful records and recording (I don't own remasters, just the original vinyls, and they sound awesome.) Also stumbled across a great documentary on youtube if you've 3 hours to kill, Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wHGXQKPSNg
The only thing about the prog that annoyed me is the inclusion of Edwin Pouncey. He is a weird choice for talking head about Kraftwerk, as he seems to be damning the band by faint praise most of the time. Whereas some guy called Mark Pendergrast is spot on in his observations, as is David Stubbs mostly (I'd not seen his fizzog before, he looks like the editor of Kerrang Phil Alexander crossed with later day Phil Oakey)

Stranglers - Black and White / No More Heroes/ The Raven/ Norfolk Coast
Nice Breakdown of B&W by John Robb here...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMqWrhp9tTk

Membranes - Dark Matter, Dark Energy / Inner Space, Outer Space Remixes
Didn't realise there was a remix of the aforementioned. It's not bad, some great interpretations, esp loved Youth and Mark Stewert versions.
Inner... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwhN-cO-_xY&list=OLAK5uy_mNIvMtEfWi_FJxSHP_qunsVwazt2LlnKI

Cat Power - Moon Pix/ You Are free

Eno - Thursday Afternoon/ Before and After Science

Caribou - Swim
This is a great record, like an old friend when it pops up :)

Simple Minds - Reel to Reel Cacophony
Simply their best record as far as I'm concerned

Slayer - Reign In Blood
Ditto above.

Mugstar - Sun Broken
Ditto x 3. Love the way the first track channels Oneida, and the second Shellac. Didn't realise it was out of print though. Was horrified to discover my disc has a huge scratch through tracks 3 and 4 causing much skippage. Would love to replace it :(

Wire - Pink Flag

Have a better one, and keep safe. xx
