Fascinating article on the most discerning - and expensive - LP re-issue label in the world: the UK's very own Electric Recording.

Fans of Arthur Lee with a good system and deep pockets, get ready to rejoice:

"The next frontier for Electric Recording is rock. Hutchison recently got permission to reissue “Forever Changes,” the classic 1967 psychedelic album by the California band Love, and said that the original tape had a more unvarnished sound than most fans had heard. "

"Forever Changes" is second only to "Kilimajaro" in the amount of times I have purchased an album. They both started (of course) with that first copy. Then over the years spotting copies in charity shops, on eBay, or as newly expanded re-issues... the acquisitive vortex drew me in... and down the rabbit hole. I lost the light. Otherworldly.. yeah.
"Forever Changes" Original US stereo and mono, original UK stereo, late 70s UK repress stereo. Three CD versions with various expansions, additional tracks extra discs, alternate mixes...
"Kilimanjaro"... I simply cannot begin... 1st, 2nd, 3rd UK Mercury, another one, US vinyl version, 2 X Cassette versions, UK CD, US CD, UK expanded, UK 3 X CD set...

Nothing could persuade me to buy another copy of either ever again. Two of my favourite albums of all time. But for me... the madness HAD to stop.

Rhino released "Forever Changes" in 2012 (45th anniversary) and claimed to be analogue all the way, original masters baked etc and it sounds amazing. Can't vouch for earlier presses but apparently because of the length of each side and being a quiet pressing was prone to surface noise. Not sure how the alleged original masters would be after in the oven for the 45th release ... No way would I ever pay the sort of money this guy is asking for. The copy I have is linked below.
