Not a whole lot this week. Sonic Youth - Screaming Fields of Sonic Love (comp) Sonic Youth - NYC Ghosts and Flowers Sonic Youth - Bad Moon Rising Sonic Youth - Live 85 (Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQLl9URnfm0) Borrowed Kim Gordon's 'Girl In A Band' from local library. After finishing it, I felt it was, well, a bit lame...it didn't really fill me in with anything I didn't know already, it felt like a long 'pooor me' thang, while giving off this hyper privileged 'trustafarian' vibe (y'know, it's easy to be edgy/arty when you've the bank of ma and pa should you require it...know that sounds disingenuous, but that's how it made me feel). Anyway, it kinda turned me off SY for a while, so thought I'd re-aquaint myself with some of my favs. Swans - Cop Swans Live UK 86 (youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVUBh5M3YpU) Saw em' on this tour playing The Mermaid in Brum (now an nice Italian/Portugese eatery after years of neglect). It was brutal. Probably THE loudest gig I've ever been to, and it all took place in a 15 x 20ft room. Nice live 2012 version of Coward here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCFKkOcaQIQ Hadn't realised Norman Westburg was still with them, and has been pretty much for their entirety. He was a scary/intimidating looking youth. Stooges - S/T 50th Anniversary reissue Hadn't heard the John Cale mix before, even though it's been out there for years. Can see why they went with the mix we all know and love, a much better sound. The 'remaster' is OK. I can hear the odd bit of the mixes that's different...mostly in the vocals being a little more to the fore and parts of the mix feeling 'drier' (as in less reverb). Still prefer my old and knackered original tho. Nice article here about Jeff Gold rooting through Danny Fields lock up and finding various stuff that has since been released by Rhino records et al.... https://longreads.com/2019/01/31/accidental-music-history-how-jeff-gold-saved-rare-iggy-the-stooges-recordings-from-the-dump/ Mix is up here if you feel the need to hear it... https://open.spotify.com/album/0Z1Y5L90NjqUD351YUQWdA Ditto the early Stooges gig at Ungano's... https://open.spotify.com/album/6FJlBMkznpPudYnRxJRcNR?autoplay=true&v=L Meat Beat Manifesto - Impossible Star Well that's it. Keep Well. Hope y'all ain't too drowned.

Fitter Stoke wrote: La La Land OST (yeah, I know…) No need to apologise for this. Only seen this film once, but my overriding memory is that it had the best musical soundtrack I've heard for years.
