The live version of 'I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone' is the sound of grunge being introduced to Seattle 20 years early, and the 12-track vinyl version of 'Missing Links' was the first hint that there was a huge vault of unreleased treasures waiting to be plundered. Thoughtfully selected and perfectly sequenced it works as an excellent new studio album in its own right). Jan & Dean - Command Performance Jan & Dean - Jan & Dean's Pop Symphony No. 1 Jan & Dean - Folk'n'Roll Jan & Dean - Jan & Dean Meet Batman Simon & Garfunkel - Simon & Garfunkel (cash in 1967 budget LP of Tom & Jerry recordings - the contents have little to do with the pair of intellectuals on the cover) Simon & Garfunkel - Wednesday Morning 3AM Paul Simon - The Paul Simon Songbook Yes - Open Your Eyes Yes - The Ladder Yes - Magnification

Lux Prima – Karen O / Dangermouse Quite possibly my album of the year so far. Fab. Henry May Long – Max Richter Some rather moving music on this. Quo – Status Quo I watched Hello Quo again this week. It's a rather decent if hurried account of the band, from the beginning to their early 70's peak an then the long slow decline where they became a pale imitation of their former selves as far as I am concerned. The clip at the end where the four original members re-unite for a surprising run through In My Chair demonstrates all too well what they lost when Coughlan and Lancaster left. Even after all those years apart there was a natural chemistry. Anyway, I put on my old copy of the 1973 Quo LP which is evidence of how big a loss Lancaster was. He wasn't just a bassist. He co-wrote much of this album with Parfitt. In fact, there are only two tracks on the album that he didn't have a hand in writing. Also... Premiers Symptomes - Air Again – Colder John Balance Enters Valhalla – Julian Cope Cosmo's Factory – Creedence Clearwater Revival Surf's Up – Fat White Family Birth School Work Death – The Godfathers I’ve Got Trouble In Mind Vol 2 (7-inch and Rare Stuff 2015-18) – The Liminanas Approved By... - The Motors

Blackwater Holylight – Veils Of Winter. Second album from female five-piece who specialise in 70s doom rock with maybe a sprinkling of Fleetwood Mac. Interesting sound. Good: https://blackwaterholylight.bandcamp.com/album/veils-of-winter The Legendary Pink Dots – Angel In The Detail. No, I didn’t know they were still going either, but this is quite a beguiling (if rather long) album – kind of gothic techno psych sung by a dark side Syd Barratt: https://legendarypinkdots1.bandcamp.com/album/angel-in-the-detail Garcia Peoples – One Step Behind. Another band channelling the spirit of West Coast psychedelia with a 32 minute title track: https://garciapeoplesbbib.bandcamp.com/album/one-step-behind-pre-order Alice Hubble – Polarlichter. Analogue synth lady existing somewhere between electro pop and the Ghost Box crowd. Agreeable: https://happyrobotsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/polarlichter Jonsi & Alex Somers – Riceboy Sleeps Sherpa – Tigris & Euphrates Regal Worm – Pig Views Twice Bitten – Late Cut. Nottingham ‘heavy wood’ duo who seemed to be the support act at every other gig I went to in my teenage neo-prog years… https://twicebitten.bandcamp.com/album/late-cut VA – Island Radicals (Mojo comp)
