David Bowie - Space Oddity Aphrodite's Child - 666 (Just discovered that almost all releases of this amazing opus feature truncated versions of certain tracks. Only the 1974 Greek reissue featured the unedited versions. Check out Silver Koulouris's extended guitar solos on Battle Of The Locusts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=datCygb40kE And here's the full version of Hic Et Nunc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfuV4Ih1N5g Quite a 'Revelation'!) Vangelis - L'Apocalypse Des Animaux Vangelis - The Dragon Vangelis - Hypothesis Vangelis - Earth Demis Roussos - Souvenirs (picked this up in a bargain bin, as it features the aforementioned Mr Koulouris on guitar, but by this stage the acid freakery had long gone. Very pleasant nonetheless). The Moody Blues - In Search Of The Lost Chord The Moody Blues - On The Threshold Of A Dream The Kinks - Give The People What They Want The Kinks - State Of Confusion The Kinks - Word Of Mouth King Crimson - Lark's Tongues In Aspic King Crimson - Starless And Bible Black Uriah Heep - Very 'Eavy, Very 'Umble Shirley Collins - Lodestar (finally caught Shirley at the Roundhouse this week, 50 years after she and Dolly last played there with Harvest Records labelmates Deep Puple, Edgar Broughton Band & Battered Ornaments) The Beatles - Let It Be...Naked

Queen Live 86. Blimmin loved it too Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed The Rude Mechanicals - Cyclops and the Wilderbeast Rage Against the Machine - S/T Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always Eric Satie - Piano Works (selection). Obs the highlights are gnossiennes and gymnopedies for anyone that knows their Satie. 2nd CD of Peggy Suicide Deluxe edition which is all new material to these ears, and very pleasing it was to hear too. Also the 3 song, I come from another planet baby single/EP type thing Under the skin with Russell Brand. Interviewing Will Stoor, author of 'Selfie - How we became so self obsessed and what it's doing to us'. Jowe Head - From a Parallel Universe, Diabolical Liberties. Jon Hopkins - Insides.

Hope y'all enjoying the short blast of winter. Took a fabbo sunshiney (butcold) hike up Leckampton Hill to Crickley yesterday....was nice to see some of the white stuff, we didn't get any in (well not much) Brum. Hawkwind - warrior on the Edge Of Time Never got around to picking up the uber remastered package from a few years ago, so have to do with me 'nice price' vinyl. Gravenhurst - The Western Lands Mick Jagger - Invocation Of My Demon Brother This is a great tune, well the first 8 odd minutes. Kinda reminds me of bits of Leary's 'The Trip' album in atmosphere. I don't own it, so did a sneaky DL off youtube. Must have played it a dozen times or more this week, great bit of 'occult' influenced psych. Even gives Floyd a run for their money (IMO) for it's strange atmosphere it conjures up. Just imagine if he'd followed his muse, left the Stones and went off on some experimental bent. He'd a made no money, but may have had a more interesting journey. I always loved his 'Memo From Turner' track in Performance too. My first experience of psychedelics/ mushrooms was with a couple of Canterbury 'heads' who were doing an art course at Birmingham Uni in the mid 80's. They fancied themselves as Pallenburgh and Jagger in performance. remember their flat was all incense, dark corners, candles and gossamer lace over lamp shades. Curtains barely open and hash smoke filtering the light. Guess that would make me the James foxx character, being the common spotty common oik from the council estate. Was good fun as I recall, night tripping in Canon Hill Park. Was in a band with em' fer a while, till it trailed off. Good Times! Memo...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3qgmVb4-kU Invocation...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyWkcB-K9TI Coil - Live Netherlands Enjoyable performance, if not their best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChfBPVrK3B8 Peel Dream Magazine - Modern Meta Physic Possibly wearing their influences a little too heavily on their sleeve, but still digging this Stereolab/Broadcast-esque record. Some good stuff on here. MMP - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WLRZLD14_8&list=OLAK5uy_lUgmai1j7ZJbg0MwIDCzkpmtUJt6bTVWE Bauhaus - Bela Session EP Not essential, but enjoyable. Nice to finally have the 'proper version of the Bela 12" on a CD after all these years. EP...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5CUlRmYStM&list=OLAK5uy_lyJ4oHJRe7yed5V6-dKe4UFByaX3UUKF0 VA - Sammlung; Elektronische Kassettenmusik, Düsseldorf 1982-1989 I remember the cassette scene was huge when I was a kid on the more experimental electronic scene, but pre-internet, it wasn't always easy to get hold of, esp music from Europe. Beurea B have been releasing some interesting electronic comps of this stuff of late. Synth pop to Cabs/ TG esque noises. Good Stuff! ADD - Dörper's Dream...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kg4JyZl0WA Le Petit Mort - Geheimes Wissen ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3z6uMSw7g0 Mentocome - b6 ....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-w-4PEGvY0 Gary Numan - Dance Was never my fav as a kid, prob cos' it sounded nothing like it predecessor 'Telekon'. Think the fact that Mick Khan was on board meant he was trying for that Japan kinda vibe, but revisiting recently, not totally successful, but it still has a few good tracks on it. Dance...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzz2Ki21E-8&list=PLjIuADMrDKIZi-IHtFyLuj-wcZjy9iuW_ Other than that, it's been Shuffle track skippery for the rest of the week. Which is kinda nice, in that sometimes it throws up interesting stuff you'd forgotten about. Anyhow, keep warm and have a good en'.

Phew, been a while... Vinyl stuff... Acid Mothers Temple - Reverse of Rebirth in Reverse A different sound, and a lovely album. Prana Crafter - Enter the Stream Gorgeous psychedelic wash like Neil Young tripping with early Pink Floyd. PFM - Cook Got this at a Caravan gig last week, in a box of 2nd hand records. I'd only heard a couple of studio albums before this, and it's great to hear them so on fire. OK Champ - Dead About Thinking (Dirty Filthy Records) Great new noise/psych band, with a healthy dose of dark humour in the lyrics. Move fast. I reckon this will sell out. Tabby Sensibilities - B&W&Tabs (Weird Beard Records) A rolling thundering trip of guitar and noise, juxtaposed with moments of ambient beauty from Terminal Cheesecake bloke. I like this a lot. Papir III and IIII Splendid guitar riffing spacerock like a more considered Earthless. Great late night listening. Throw Down Bones - Two A wonderful slab of bouncing beats and guitar noise. Puts me in mind of early ACR if they'd had techno to play with. Makes me smile. Relayer - Yes I was after a nice copy of this, and struck it lucky. My favourite Roger Dean cover, and a great album too. Still stands up after all these years. Tago Mago - Can A christmas present - and boy does it sound and look good in this edition. True genius. Hope you're all keeping rocking and a rolling!

Right, into the new releases breach once more… The Comet Is Coming – Trust In The Lifeforce Of The Deep Mystery. Sax, synth, drums, pretty great, a futuristic cyber punk version of jazz rock without being John Zorn-esque skronk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yEM-IgR69Y&index=37&list=PL9tY0BWXOZFuiE7QFMzvaTuhXleCaAc52 Time Grove – More Than One Thing. You wait for one album of forward-facing modern jazz… etc etc These guys are more multi-faceted and slightly mellower than TCIC, but similarly inventive: https://timegroveproject.bandcamp.com/album/more-than-one-thing Jack Hues Quartet & Syd Arthur – Nobody’s Fault But My Own. 21 minute ambient/jazz/rock improv cover of a Beck track, very reminiscent in places of yer Talk Talk and yer Bark Psychosis. Jack Hues is the bloke who used to be in Wang Chung, but don’t hold that against him, this is rather nice: https://jackhuesthequartetftsydarthur.bandcamp.com/album/nobodys-fault-but-my-own Rustin Man – Drift Code. Ooh, did somebody mention Talk Talk. Here’s Paul Webb’s latest, 12 years on or something from the last one he did with Beth Gibbons. And he’s singing on this one, and blimey, he’s got quite a decent voice, bit like a more gravelly Robert Wyatt. There’s a LOT to take in on this album, but suspect it’s very good indeed. Imagine if TT had been led by Nick Cave instead of Mark Hollis… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgBs42v3l0k Pond – Tasmania. I have somehow managed to not hear the previous seven Pond albums, so difficult to judge, but I would say that they’ve plotted a similar stylistic course as their mate Kevin Parker aka Mr Tame Impala ie. from stoner/cosmic psych to that kind of digital/electro pop/rock thing that gets Guardian reviewers indecently excited. On saying that, I rather liked it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbHw9mYpaF4 Sunwatchers – Illegal Moves. Free rock guys who happily know when to rein it in and that throwing us the odd melody isn’t a bad idea. Imagine a snottier, younger version of Hot Rats: https://soundcloud.com/troubleinmind/sunwatchers-beautiful-crystals-trouble-in-mind-records-1 Vuono – White Dots. Finnish indie super group. No, come back, this was both pleasant and interesting, and perhaps not what you’d expect… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkXWUkjCgmc Mythopoeic Mind – Mythopoetry. More Scandies (Norway this time). Symphonic RIO? Err, OK, not really my bag, but not dreadful. OGRE & Dallas Campbell – All Hallows II. Synth and drums John Carpenter worship. OK, but Zombi and Advisory Circle have done this kind of thing better. VA – Bob Stanley & Pete Wiggs Present Three Day Week: When The Lights Went Out 1972-75. Oh, now, this is rather special, as you’d expect from any themed comp that has Bob & Pete attached (see last year’s Paris In The Spring for instance). Marvellous miscellany of primitive glam, proto-punk, funky pub rock and some stuff that’s just bizarre, including: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlIeAjA23Eg Stealing Sheep – Big Wows Hawklords – Live 78 Live: Field Music – Imperial War Museum, London. FM are the kind of group that get commissioned to put together a song suite commemorating the end of WW1 and its influence on the next hundred years of history. Sounds a bit exhausting, but these guys are more than a match for it. Anyway, great gig in the main hall of the IWM, with planes hanging above where the band played. And happily, more of a return to the ‘classic’ FM sound ie. the Prince worship is kept to a minimum, while brainy 80s avant pop a la Talking Heads is back on the menu.
