Stealing Sheep – Big Wows. New one from quirky Scouse electro-folk-indie ladies, though the emphasis is increasingly on the electro. Pretty good on first listen, their voices remain pleasingly un-autotuned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kv9avX54KAo
Zdenek Liška – Ikarie XB-1. Czech composer guy that the Finders Keepers blurb wants us to believe is an east European Morricone. Some interesting orch/electronics stuff here, soundtrack to great Czech sci-fi film from 1963, re-titled Voyage To The End Of The Universe for western consumption: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msm5BdK35us
VA – Revolution: Underground Sounds Of 1968. Another boxset extravaganza which took me all week to get through. Decent enough, but unlike Bob & Pete’s Paris In The Spring (for instance), there’s no sense of how this music fitted in with what was happening outside of the recording studio during that pretty tumultuous year. Still, these guys clearly had something on their minds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CH6zCp5_Ec
Craven Faults – ‘Intakes’
Mansun – Six / The Dead Flowers Reject. Getting the deluxe reissue treatment. If you’re never heard Six, do, it remains an astonishing album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhEi2cBpoAk TDFR is a B-sides collection (though supposedly it was recorded at the same time as Six as a standalone, more ‘accessible’ album).
Hawklords – Live 78. Ooh, never heard this before, great versions of Death Trap and Psi Power. They weren’t mucking about on this tour, that’s for sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Cx6fVrQY4c
