There's a new CAN book out tomorrow : http://louderthanwar.com/rob-young-irmin-schmidt-gates-open/ I never got round to reading the old CAN box book, was that one any good? I guess this one is more in depth. The obligatory Limited Edition version is insanely priced as usual : https://coles-books.co.uk/signed-books/special-limited-editions/all-gates-open-the-biography-of-can-limited-edition-by-irmin-schmidt-and-rob-young

It seems good. Not read it yet but it’s a sizeable tome. In fact this is split essentially into two books, the first being regular sort of rock biography, the second is called Can Kiosk, and is more of a metaphor for their music. The late, great Mark E Smith is interviewed alongside Bobby Gillespie and other names.

Oooh, Thanks fer the heads up, just ordered my copy. Can are one of my fav' bands, and whilst I've read a fair bit about them over the years, this looks like a hefty tome worth a perusal. Not sure about the 'part 2' element, (it's always frickin' Bobby Gillespie being interviewed fer this kinda thang isn't it?). Mnd you, in a similar, but somehow totally different vein, I did kinda enjoy the Brand Neu! comp from more than a few years ago, so who knows, maybe it'll be interesting. Enjoyed (kinda) Electric Eden, so yay!. A bit like Bob Fossil in the Mighty Boosh, I was aware of it (the book), then I forgot about it, then I remembered again.

I’ve just started it so please don’t read too much into my praise (pun definitely intended) but it seems like the sort of thing I’d digest in one session. Do love me a good rock biog. the second part seems interesting in concept. Although probably not as essential.

THere's an older one by Pascal Bussey that I have always wanted to read and never found for a decent enough price. So looking forward to getting hold of this. It was on Book Depository for €20 a few days back.

I've got Pascal Bussey's CAN book...quite a good read, actually. It's an excellent overview/reference piece, but I have to admit that it falls a bit short on explaining why Can has continued to remain the musical touchstone that it is. But then, that's not so simple to put into words anyway, so I can't fault the author there.
